Applications
Advanced Micro Peripherals
Advanced Micro Peripheral’s board and module level products are based on industry standard form factors such as PC/104, PC/104-Plus, CompactPCI and mini PCI and enable developers to create high performance, ruggedised systems using low power processor boards.
The system level products are designed to help reduce the time needed to market and minimize the technical effort required to create complete video systems. Advanced Micro Peripheral offer standard system solutions for video recording, and video streaming and can also work with you to provide customised systems for specialised applications.
DVR & Video Streaming
Advanced technology delivers real-time video streaming and recording solutions at both system and board level. The HYDRA system captures and encodes up to 12 live PAL/NTSC video channels and one audio channel for local storage or streaming over an Ethernet LAN. MPEG-4 compression levels and streaming rates are variable. The StreamCorder-HD-SDI is an intelligent, stand-alone streaming board that accepts an HD-SDI input up to 1080p30 resolution, applies H.264 compression, then stores or streams the data over 100/1000 Mbps Ethernet. The StreamCorder-SD4 version accepts four NTSC/PAL/RS-170 inputs.
The single board StreamCorder solutions are ideal for rapid deployment in demanding Military, Communications, Transportation, Mining and Energy industry situations. Example applications include mobile, UAS and Vetronix. The HYDRA system is typically used for harsh environment video surveillance in both static and vehicle installations.

H.264/MPEG4 Codec
The range of H.264/MPEG-4 Codecs encompasses many form factors and standards, including Mini PCI, CompactPCI, CompactPCI Serial, PC/104-Plus, PCI-104, Mini PCIe and, for Mezzanine boards, PMC. These boards bring a rich set of video grabbing, compression, decompression and related functions to these differing standards; adding rugged, compact embedded video capability to widely varying types of OEM system.
Depending on the board chosen, four or eight channels of full frame rate analog PAL or NTSC video can be captured and compressed in real time to H.264 or MPEG-4 standards for storage, with simultaneous on-screen preview of decompressed or uncompressed video.
Text and graphics overlay functions, and sometimes alpha blending, are typically included, as is motion detection. Multiple boards can be installed within a single system, and drivers for Windows XP and Windows XP Embedded are available.
Applications for ultra-low latency codecs include video surveillance, live relays, video conferencing, remote surgery, online gaming and any other situation calling for real-time user interaction or visual feedback control.
Video Capture Frame Grabbers
The Frame Grabber range includes boards in many PCI, PC/104, PMC and standalone form factors for both raw video and audio capture, and capture with MPEG-4/MPEG-2/H.264 compression. Real-time analog PAL/NTSC, YPbPr, VGA or RGB video or HDMI/DVI is grabbed for local storage and preview as well as bus transfer. High Performance, multi-channel and even multi-board operation, overlay, watermark authentication and other features are available by selection of suitable boards.
Compressed video applications include multi-channel video recording and streaming, mobile, UAS and Vetronix. RAW video boards appear in applications like embedded Situational Awareness, surveillance, image processing, multimedia, solid state video recording, machine vision and digital image capture.
Video Annotation and Overlay
These PC/104 and PCI-104 form factor boards allow real-time addition of video overlay and annotation to multiple composite or s-video PAL/NTSC/RS-170 channels. Alpha-blending of video/video and video/graphics is also supported. The boards accept inputs from video cameras, digital video recording equipment, video instrumentation and other sources. Outputs for VGA or TV monitors, or TMDS/LVDS flat panel displays are provided. Onboard intelligence minimises CPU host loading.
The boards support applications requiring information to be added to live video streams; these include titles, dynamic grids or visible watermarking. PiP, PoP and tiled views are supported. Annotated output can also be MPEG-4 encoded for compression and recording applications.
Video Display Format Converters
The Video Display Format Converters are board-level modules that convert signals between mutually incompatible video formats and standards. Different products exist for converting signals between PC VGA graphics, broadcast-quality NTSC, PAL, RS170, HDMI/DVI and STANAG 3350. Superior performance comes from the products’ on-board hardware processing, while their CPUs relieve system central processors of processing load.
The range of Video Display Format Converters delivers versatile performance from rugged, compact form factors. These are ideal for high-end applications ranging from industrial, military and mining to visualisation and gaming installations with multiple screens.
